Todays the day

Later this morning I am going into surgery, so it may be a while before I post again. I was hoping I could get pictures (of my kidneys). Didn't have nerve to do a before picture.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes.
Surgery went very well. It was done laparoscopically, 4 holes in belly each side to detach and a 5in vertical slit below the belly button to remove them. Each kidney a little over 10 lbs. The doctors insisted I get out of bed the day after. Back home today. Maybe two more weeks of healing.

Ten pounds? Good Lord! No wonder you wanted to rid yourself of those things. You'll definitely be less burdened from now on. Rest well.

So glad to hear the surgery went well. I hope you will share some of your experience with us. Does your body feel relieved, or does it struggle as hard at the missing parts as it did at the disabled parts? I wish you strength.

So glad everything went well and you're back home. My goodness, 20 lbs altogether! That must surely make quite a difference.

Have not felt the difference yet. I guess because of the pain and the excess fluid from surgery. I certainly look smaller. I am relieved not only because of the look and discomfort; I wont have to worry about infections and the cysts hemorrhaging. A year and half ago I had to be hospitalized, because of the hemorrhaging and had to get a transfusion because I had lost so much blood. Thanks again for your concern.

Hathor ... may I ask? Did you receive a kidney transplant? Or did they just remove your cystic kidneys? If you're not too busy, please drop me an e-mail sometime ... I'm 37 with PKD and would love to hear your experiences with PKD.

I had the transplant in 2003.
I finally got the nerve to have my kidneys removed. It wasn't difficult medically since I had had some problems with them after the transplant.

Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
