The longest twenty seconds in my life.
I am back to work. Realized a few days before surgery that I didn't have as much sick time as I thought; so since the surgery went well, I went back to work a few weeks earlier. I was and am still a little sore, but I don't have to do any heavy lifting except to bring my big cup of coffee back to my desk. Anyways, a couple of weeks ago I received an email notifying me of an upcoming job fair with an utility company. I went this morning and was able to get three on the spot interviews. During one of the interviews, I got asked a question and at the moment I started to answer, I lost my train of thought. I even forgot the question. SCARY !!!! I still continued to talk trying to remember what the question was. I felt I couldn't dare ask him to repeat it. Fortunately, I did recover my memory and directed my conversation into answering the question. I hope the interviewer didn't notice. I hope it didn't take me any longer than twenty seconds to answer.
Since these are my first interviews in a few years, I have no idea if I was sucessful.

I recall that same thing happening to me when I was in a meeting, and had begun thinking ahead of other points I wanted to cover instead of concentrating on the question. The interviewer probably didn't notice, although it is scary, I agree.
Some people notice that same thing after undergoing anaesthesia. I wouldn't worry unless it occurs more frequently.

I do that all the time! Well prehaps that's exaggerating a little, but it's happened and I've known it happen to others. From the interviewer's point of view it's really not as big a deal as it seems to the person being interviewed.
It's great news about the interviews though. It helps when you're there in person and they aren't judging you from a piece of paper.
They say that the decision is made within the first three minutes of an interview. One of my bosses in the past took that so much to heart, he used to allocate 15 minutes per interview, which seemed to be far too short. But when it was my turn I got the job so I can't complain.

By the way, I've had this problem with short-term memory my whole life, so you need not be overly concerned about it ... and you DID recall the question, better than my record.

I am glad that I am not the only one. Its just competing with younger minds, I want to appear sharp as they are. I guess that is why I get engaged on some blogs. The tekkies there are my competition.
